Weekly workshops are offered throughout the year for you to work on the six core competencies that graduate students should develop during the course of their training. Events are open to everyone, including students, postdocs, faculty, and staff.

What Nobody Ever Tells You: Writing Tips for International Graduate Students

January 26, 2021 (2 p.m. to 3 p.m.) via Zoom

With Jennifer Ramos (English Language Institute)

This hour-long workshop will target areas of academic writing that often pose a challenge to non-native speakers. We will cover three topics that can bring about noticeable improvement: the most common ESL errors and how to avoid them, good design principles for tables and graphics, and patterns of organization to enhance paragraph readability.

Literature Reviews: Know Your Options

Literature reviews summarize published knowledge of a specific topic. They are a key component of the research process. There are a variety of types of literature reviews today, such as annotated, scoping and systematic. In this session, we’ll explore the different types of literature reviews and identify library resources to help write each type – whether for a class, a grant proposal or a publication.

A postdoc is a job, but more importantly it is a training and mentorship experience that should help you enter your intended career. Stress and Anxiety Management

April 14, 2021 (11 a.m. - 12 p.m.) via Zoom

With Brianna Kane and Morgan Hagstrom (College of Education)

Burn out can happen when our stress goes unaddressed in both graduate studies and beyond. In this workshop, you will gain knowledge about what stress and anxiety are and the ways that they present themselves. You will learn and practice a variety of techniques that are commonly used to assist with coping and reducing feelings of stress and anxiety. These techniques are easily adaptable and can be implemented in a multitude of setting to allow for continuing practice.
