Job Search Series

The Graduate School, the Career Connections Center, and IFAS/CALS Department of Agronomy will host events during the Spring 2023 semester on entering the job market.

Designed for late-stage graduate students and postdocs, the events will focus primarily on non-academic careers, although some information will apply to academic job searches as well.

There are two parts to the Job Search Series: 

1. Seminars on essential skills to identify, pursue, and secure professional positions (Mondays, all 3 - 5pm)

  • 1/23/2023: Non-academic job search
  • 1/30/2023: CVs, resumes, and cover letters
  • 2/6/2023: Elevator pitch and networking
  • 2/13/2023: Interviewing skills
  • 2/20/2023: Salary negotiation

2. UF-A2i. Intensive immersion days to develop professional skills and interact with industry leaders (Tuesdays, space limited). If you are chosen to participate in A2i, participation in all seminars above and immersion days is required

  • 1/31/2023, 1-5 pm: Networking, panel, and CV review with Syngenta
  • 02/07/2023, 3-5pm: Group project and elevator pitch practice with industry sponsor
  • 2/14/2023 3-5pm: Group project and Mock interviews with industry sponsor
  • 2/21/2023, 1-5 pm: Group presentations and awards with Syngenta

The same application is used for both parts of the Job Search Series. You can indicate in the application if you'd like to be considered for the A2i portion.

What is UF-A2i? 

UF- A2i is a bold, new approach to workforce training for UF graduate students and post-doctoral associates. Through UF-A2i, participants can interact directly with global industry leaders, build key business, leadership, and communication skills, and explore employment opportunities.  

When is UF-A2i?  

UF-A2i will be held on four Tuesdays during the Successful Job Search Series and topics will broadly follow the Monday sessions.

UF-A2il features resume workshops, mock interviews, team projects, and networking events – all led by industry leaders and focused on providing participants with a competitive edge in the job market.  

How Can I apply to UF-A2i?  

Simply select “Yes” in the dropdown menu when asked if you would like to apply for UF-A2i in the Job Search Series application and briefly explain why you would like to attend. Admission for A2i is competitive and will be limited. Those selected will receive an email notification no later than January 10th, 2023.
