Career Exploration

Beyond the Professoriate is an online professional development training platform for graduate students and postdocs. Through two programs of study (Academic Careers and Professional Careers), postdocs and graduate students can explore career options and learn job search strategies to secure employment in academia and beyond. Beyond the professoriate also hosts a unique video library where students can hear from PhDs working in all career sectors.

Beyond the Professoriate shows that PhDs move through four stages during their career transition. PhDs must:

• DISCOVER their values, interests, and skills and build a metric for career opportunities.
• RESEARCH career pathways that align with their metric.
• IMPLEMENT a job search focused on one career field of interest.
• BUILD a career by evaluating their career choices and identifying future opportunities.

Applications for the CAREER EXPLORATION STEP 1: DISCOVER program are open until May 28th, 2023.

In this program we will uncover:

• what you do (your skills),
• what motivates you (your values),
• and how your skills and values align with what the world will pay you money to do (your most marketable skills).

This 5-week program will begin June 27th – July 24th and will have both online components and an in-person discussion once a week.
