Mentor Training

 

The Graduate Student Success Center is pleased to announce the creation of IMAGE, Inclusive Mentor Academy for Graduate Education. IMAGE follows a nationally validated curriculum for mentor training, focusing on those in the earlier stages of their experiences as graduate student mentors working with high school, undergraduate, or early stage graduate students. 

IMAGE follows the curriculum developed by CIMER, Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research. 

In the Spring 2024, IMAGE will be offered in eight - 90 minute sessions on Tuesdays from February 27 to April 23, from 2 pm - 3:30 pm. All sessions will be in-person at the University of Florida main campus.

IMAGE will run over six consecutive Tuesdays from February 27, 2024 to April 23, 2024, from 2 pm - 3:30 pm. 

Week 1 - Introduction to mentor training 

Week 2 - Aligning expectations

Week 3 - Promoting professional development

Week 4 - Maintaining effective communication

Week 5 - Addressing diversity of thought

Week 6 - Assessing understanding

Week 7 - Fostering independence

Week 8 - Cultivating ethical behavior

To participate in IMAGE, potential applicants must: 

1. Be a current graduate student at the University of Florida

2. Be available to complete all eight 90 minute sessions

4. Provide letter signed by main advisor/chair that attests to their support in your participation in the program (accepted students will receive instructions on how to complete this)
